Players can take part in weekly tournaments at bars and restaurants where they earn points. They qualify for the state championship by accumulating points over a six-month period.

More than 1,000 of the 17,000 players registered in the league qualified and were invited to the state championship.

“It’s great to see the turnout growing more and more with each state finals tournament we host,” said Greg Needham, The World Poker Store vice president of marketing.

He continued saying, “Certainly the players enjoy the chance at the big prizes, but the camaraderie and the social aspects of a weekend with friends is what really drives them to play.”
